1.      Questions

a.       Read closely the teaching and learning process conducted by Mr. Evan from:

opening; delivering the main activities; to closing the classes. Then write down at  least three (3) of the strengths and weaknesses of those processes. Propose your  solutions/improvement for the weaknesses that you identify.

The Answers

1.      Strengths and weaknesses in the teaching and learning process.

The three advantages that Mr. Evan does in the teaching and learning process are:

1)      Mr. Evan's teaching method is very good. He describes the interaction between teachers and students in the learning process. The teaching method describes the student's learning experience in the process so that the stages are clear. He applies the method of how students' learning experiences develop so that students master knowledge, improve skills and strengthen attitudes formed through the learning process.

2)       Mr. Evan has special skills to relate each method he uses to make it easier for his students to absorb the subject matter he gives.

3)      It seems that Mr. Evan can find out the level of development of his students, the knowledge that students have mastered before, so Mr. Evan immediately enters the learning material.

Besides having advantages like this in the teaching and learning process that Mr. evan does but also has weaknesses, which he needs to know in terms of the teaching and learning process.

1)      It seems that Mr. Evan teaches not using lesson plans, the solution is:

In teaching the teacher has not prepared, made his own RPP alias learning tools. Before teaching, it is better if a teacher has prepared his teaching materials and is the result of his own work, so that he knows what will be given to students.

2)      Mr. Evan teaches not to bring learning media in the form of flip carts, and other media. Often in teaching do not bring media learning tools in the classroom. The solution is to prepare media related to learning materials, usually at the beginning of the new school year. Media can be taken from used materials or those around the school environment, or students' homes.

3)      Mr. Evan rarely uses fun teaching methods. The solution is to master a variety of teaching methods such as: Contextual Teaching Learning, Quantum Teaching, Inquiry, project based learning and others.

b.      What interaction do you find in the teaching-learning process done by Mr. Evan? Please support your answer by referring at least three (3) to the case of teaching and learning process and cite the activities. What solution do you propose to improve the situation? Answer the question by completing the table.

Evidence from the case

Points of Improvement

·   Require material organization good lessonand preparationcommunication skills prime one.

·   Learning is not well structured so that the material is still floating here and there, resulting in students not understanding the subject matter given

·   The material is not packaged properly, so that when the material is given and at the start of the lesson, they are confused about which material to give

·    The teacher must have an understanding of students' teaching provisions before learning begins, understand the true knowledge that students have mastered.

·     Each stage of learning need to be designed and implemented as expected

·   The subject matter must be packaged properly before the implementation of learning.

1.       Mr. Evan’s lesson focused on Grammar/Simple Present Tense only. Based on the quotation above, what language components and/or what language skills should be included in his lesson?

The answer :

Besides Mr. Evan focusing on grammar only, Mr. Evan uses language components, namely vocabulary and pronunciation in this case to increase vocabulary so that students can know more vocabulary and pronunciation of each word.

2.      Based on the quotation above, analyze Mr. Evan’s lesson in terms of:

a.     the principle of communicative competence;

b.    using language contextually;

c.     learning language meaningfully;

d.    language function and language form; and

e.     using language for communication purpose.

The answer:

Based on the quote above, analyze Mr. Evan's lesson in terms of: a. the principle of communicative competence;

Mr. Evan uses language contextually because Mr. Evan's learning assumes that the mind naturally seeks meaning in context according to the real situation of one's environment through searching for reasonable and useful relationships. Mr. Evan combining the material learned with the students' daily experiences will produce in-depth basic knowledge even though it focuses on grammar alone.
